In my Creative Writing class, Reading and Writing for Self-Discovery, we are doing a Film Study unit. Today we will be watching the classic Tim Burton film, Edward Scissorhands. And when Tim Burton makes a movie, it is customary to have Johnny Depp play the role, in this case, Edward Scissorhands. Depp is also in a number of other Burton films including Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Corpse Bride. A director like Tim Burton is somebody who creates the overall vision of a film. This film was produced in 1990 and is about a quiet, young man who just happens to have the obvious handicap of scissors being attached to his hands. It tells the story of how Edward Scissorhands finds love after years of being afraid and being feared.
